NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON “CITATION ANALYSIS, IMPACT FACTOR, PATENT

AND COPYRIGHTS FOR MAXIMIZING RESEARCH IMPACT” AT PHD HOUSE, NEW DELHI

2nd National Workshop on Citation Analysis, Impact factor, Patent and Copyrights for Maximizing Research Impact was organized by PHD House, New Delhi on 27th Feb 15. The Main Objective of the Workshop to coach participants to initiate search proceedings in the most suitable manner, and prepare reports for study and analyses. The technical sessions cover the basics of documentation, search tools and techniques w.r.t. patent, copyrights, citation analysis and impact factor and advocacy , to become a competent researcher, understanding the nuances of the mechanisms for organized research with latest technology is a necessity.

 

The Workshop was inaugurated in the gracious presence of Eminent Speakers Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh Vice Chancellor, National Law University, Delhi & Vice-President, Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Mr. Amit Gupta, Chairman, Education Committee, PHD Chamber & CEO, S. Chand and Co. , Dr. Rubina Mittal, Co-Chairperson, Education Committee, PHD Chamber Dr. Ramesh Gaur, University Librarian, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Prof. M. N. Hoda Editor-in-Chief, BIJIT (INDIA); Director, Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management, Prof. Rupamanjari Ghosh, (Director, School of Natural Sciences and Dean of Research & Graduate Studies, Shiv Nadar University). Ms Anju Mehra (Thomson Reuters), Dr. Rekha Chaturvedi, (IPR Chair, University of Delhi), Mr. Hari Subramaniam, (Subramaniam & Associates, Attorneys-at-law, Patent & Trademark Agents), Dr. Nabi Hasan, (Deputy Librarian, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi ), Dr. N. Raghuram, (Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University) & Prof. (Dr.) K. K. Saini, (Prof. and Head (R&D), Electronics & Communication Engineering Department, Dronacharya College of Engineering).

 

The program was initiated with the welcome of delegates and commenced with introductory speech by Dr. Ramesh Gaur discussed about the “Anti-Plagiarism Strategies for Maximizing Research Impact”. He explained various strategies can be used to combat in an increasing amount of plagiarism on research papers and encourage students to value the assignment and to do their own work.

 

The first Technical session was taken by Prof. Rupamanjari Ghosh & Prof. (Dr.) K. K. Saini. They discussed about the “Understanding the Research Impact Indicators” measure the frequency with which the "average article" in a journal has been cited in a particular year & Impact Factors can be used to compare a journal's relative importance with other journals in the same subject category. Various aspects of “Research paper writing patenting and need for creative research work”. Scientific or Technical Journal Writes like Scientists, doctors, engineers and academics are usually introduced early to the importance and strategy of writing and publishing papers, but patents is an intellectual property right granted by the government to an inventor to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale or selling the invention.

 

The Second Technical Session was taken by Dr. Nabi Hasan, He focused on “Maximizing & Mapping Research Impact” require identifying new ways for faculty, students, and postdoctoral fellows to explore and solve exciting problems by working together across traditional academic disciplines. Operationalizing mapping and crowdsourcing initiatives in large organizations can lead to greater development impact, and how best to build on and share the evidence base and best practices around the use and application of mapping and crowdsourcing. It will engage a broad range of multi-sectorial experts in a dialogue about the measurable impact on the ground and lessons learned from programs that leverage technologies.

 

The audience comprised of Researcher and Predictors from Industry as well as Academic Institutions. The workshop was useful as the participants learnt various concepts of Citation Analysis, Impact factor, Patent and Copyrights for Maximizing Research Impact. The Workshop concluded with the distribution of certificates to all 60 participants.
