IETE 62nd Foundation Day on 2 Nov 2015

Three Faculty members Ms. Saloni Bhatia, Ms.Pankti Brar and Dharmendra Pal along with 21 students from ECS, CSE, IT, ECE , CSIT Department of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon attended the 62nd Foundation Day of IETE (The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers) at IETE Headquarters, 2, Institutional Area, Lodhi Road, New Delhi on 2nd Nov 2015.

 

The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is India's leading recognized professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunication & IT which was founded in 1953. The IETE is the National Apex Professional body of Electronics and Telecommunication, Computer Science and IT Professionals. It serves more than 1,25,000 members (including Corporate, Student and ISF members) through various 64 centers, spread all over India and abroad. The Institution provides leadership in Scientific and Technical areas of direct importance to the national development and economy. The IETE focuses on advancement of the Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunication, Computers, Information Technology and related areas. Towards this end the Institution promotes and conducts basic engineering and continuing technical education programmes for human resource development.

 

Dr. G. Sateesh Reddy SA to Raksha Mantri was the Chief Guest of the function. The IETE dignitaries were Dr. Smriti Dagar, President IETE and Maj. Gen. Jaggia (Retd), Secretary General, IETE started the event with their welcome speeches.

 

Brief:

Session by Smt. Smriti Dagur:

She is currently President and Member of Governing Council of IETE society. She discussed the various problems which can be fixed by creating Digital India and the way in which we can use our expertise to solve these problems. She emphasized on the motto “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas” which would be fulfilled by adopting the idea of Digital India. She describes the IETE initiatives to propagate the idea as follows:

a)IETE had signed MoU to launch first skilling course of Fibre Optic slices with the Govt. of India.

b) It had organized various ESDM workshops in different states.

c) It had started DGR courses for resettlement of armed forces on the issues like:

1. Establishment of incubation center by working with CDOT.

2. Creation of policies of National DNS system.

3. Accelerating broadband in rural areas.

4. Citizen safety and security holistic approach.

5. Disaster mitigation using ICTE.

d) IETE had also submitted papers to Government of India regarding call drop problems. She ended her speech by defining the proposals submitted by IETE like CSS for delivering G2C server, creating awareness by taking literary program in rural areas and various computer courses and short term courses for women.

 

Session by Prof. K.K Aggarwal :

He is a chancellor of K.R. Mangalam University and is currently a member of governing council of IETE society. He talks about the digital technology and its advancement with the help of Digital Electronics. Some of the major initiatives involved in Digital India are:

1. There are Nine pillars of Digital India:

1. Broadband Highways

2. Universal Access to Mobile Connectivity

3. Public Internet Access Programme

4. e-Governance: Reforming Government through Technology

5. e-Kranti - Electronic Delivery of Services

6. Information for All

7. Electronics Manufacturing

8. IT for Jobs

9. Early Harvest Programmes

 

He also illustrated the various dichotomies suffered by education system in India and the problems faced by Indian education system.

 

Session by Dr. Muktesh Chander:

He is commissioner of Delhi Police Traffic control and is an IPS officer. He talks about major issues which the traffic police face to manage the traffic and the role which IETE can perform to create an advance traffic control system. He also made the audience aware of the StucksNet which was the virus created to attack industrial control system in U.S. His session made us gain knowledge regarding the SCADA and the 2007 Estonia attack after which the Estonia became Digital Estonia the wired country in the world.

 

Session by Dr. Satheesh G. Reddy:

He is renowned Indian scientist and currently serving as a scientific advisor to Raksha Mantralya. He was the Guest of Honour and describes the various aspects of Digital India. Digital India is an initiative by the Government of India to ensure that Government services are made available to citizens electronically by improving online infrastructure and by increasing Internet connectivity. It was launched on July 1, 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The initiative includes plans to connect rural areas with high-speed internet networks. Digital India has three core components. These include:

1. The creation of digital infrastructure

2. Delivering services digitally

3. Digital literacy

 

The event was successfully ended with the thanks giving speech of Major Gen. P.K Jaggia, currently Secretariat General of IETE.

 

Conclusion:

The session was very knowledgeable and the students got the opportunity to listen to the experiences of such eminent personalities.
