INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO SURYA ROSHNI LTD.

Electronics and Communication Engineering department organised Industrial Visits of IV semester on 17th & 18th Mar 15 to Surya Roshni Ltd., Bahadurgarh. Three faculty members (Mrs. Seema Narwal, Mr. Surender Dhaka and Mr. Ashish Gambhir) from the Department accompanied the sixty five students for the visits.

Surya Roshni Ltd. is a well renowned company with spacious divisions and ideally located as it is connected by road as well as rail. As of today, the company has a turnover of more than Rs. 2000 crore from the Bahadurgarh plant itself. Apart from the manufacturing unit, Surya Roshni Ltd. has its own mini city spread over an area of 60 acres known by the name Prakash Nagar. The other units of Surya Roshni Ltd are at Dehradun (Uttrakhand) and Gandhinagar (Gujarat). For the last four decades, Surya Group has ventured into diverse manufacturing areas such as tubes, LED’s ,fans and so on with overall turnover amounting to Rs. 4000 crore.

Mr. Purushottam Singh, HR Manager, Surya Roshni Ltd. welcomed the students and explained the safety measures to be followed during the plant visit. The visit to the metal processing unit started with demonstration of various equipment being used in making the cold rolling (CR) metal and hot rolling (HR) metal. Mr. Neeraj Kumar, the supervisor explained the application areas where these metal types are used in everyday life. He also gave hands-on demonstration of the various electronics control instruments and equipment being used.

After the visit to metal processing unit, the supervisor showed the electrical section to the students. The PLC circuits being employed were explained along with the various connections of motor drives. Later, the quality measures being followed were briefed and various strength testing equipment also demonstrated to the students.

The visit to Surya Roshni Ltd. has been highly informative. The students got the exposure to the various processes involved and various automation equipment being used in the plant. Such visits help the students in correlating the theoretical concepts learnt in the class to the practical applications of those concepts.
