WORKSHOP ON PLC & AUTOMATION

10-11 Sep 2015

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon, organized a two day workshop on “PLC & Automation” in association with Siemens authorized Industrial Automation Training center ATC North on 10th -11th September 2015. Total 55 students of ECE V sem and VII sem participated in the workshop.

This workshop program was designed to provide the technologically advanced concepts of PLC along with basics to aptly fit in the industry and hiring trends along with facts & figures of the industry was provided.

The workshop was inaugurated by Hon’ble Principal Dr. B.M.K Prasad. The following distinguished speakers graced the workshop:

1. Mr. Gulshan Sandhu, Center Head, IATC , Siemens

2. Mr. Jaskaran Singh Bedi, Manager-Siemens Corporate Training

3. Mr.Abhinav Bharmoria, Manager Trainings- Drives

On 11th September 2015 Mr. Jaskaran Singh Bedi briefed the participants about the Introduction to Automation Technology. He discussed that Human Machine Interface (HMI) that includes the electronics required to signal and control the state of industrial automation equipment. HMI applications require mechanical robustness and resistance to water, dust, moisture, a wide range of temperatures, and, in some environments, secure communication.

In the afternoon session, he briefed the participants about the concept of AC & DC drives. He explained how to make a program in PLC using ladder logic language. He also gave a demo to experience the speed and ease of the work flow, shown through an example on PLC kit.

On 12th September 2015, Mr. Abhinav Bharmoria gave an Introduction to Embedded Technology. He said that embedded systems have extensive applications in consumer, commercial, automotive, industrial and healthcare markets. Embedded systems have limited computing resources and strict power requirements, so writing software for embedded devices is a very specialized field that requires knowledge of both hardware components and programming.

The second part of the workshop was a hands-on tutorial on motors in ET lab. He briefed the students that the main difference between AC and DC motors is that the magnetic field generated by the stator rotates in the case of AC motors. A rotating magnetic field is key to the operation of all AC motors.

A technical test was conducted for the participants and it consisted of 50 questions. The shortlisted students got a chance for six months training at Siemens authorized Industrial Automation Training center.

The program ended with Vote of Thanks by Mrs. Dimple Saproo, HOD, ECE. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Guest Experts for making the workshop useful and result oriented.

Certificates were given to all the students who participated in the event.

Overall, the workshop provided a platform to the students where they can improve their technical knowledge regarding PLC & automation.
